When I was 17 I had a encounter with Jesus and it transformed my life. Since then that transformation has been lived out in many different ways. Jesus once said "more important than any other thing, love me and love people." So then the question is "what does it mean to truly love people?" Ask a lot of different people and you will get a lot of different answers. I believe a common theme would be helping people and serving people.

What could that look like in the mortgage business? I help and serve every client by giving honest answers, my expertise and very good pricing. Giving half of what I make to charity on each loan is taking it a step further. Honestly, helping people (loving people) is more important to me than making money. I've been blessed already and have enough. My aim is not to make as much money as possible but in "doing the most good". (Salvation Army slogan) How can I love people in the greatest way possible? For my mortgage business, I believe this is it: offer a great mortgage product, my expertise and honest advice at competitive pricing so I can give away more money.

I started working for Good Deeds Mortgage in May of 2017. I had just recently graduated from Washington State University with Majors in Accounting and Management of Information Systems with a Minor in Political Science. I had met with Tim earlier that Spring, before I graduated, and he had told me what Good Deeds Mortgage was about, and the vision for it.

When I was growing up, I once heard it said "What is a man that doesn't try to make the world better?" And when I met with Tim and he told me that Good Deeds Mortgage gives Half of its Revenue to Charity, I knew I had to be a part of that. A simple company model, set to make a huge difference. Our world needs society-changing businesses to step forward and make a difference, and I am grateful to be working at a place that does so.

Outside of working at Good Deeds Mortgage, you'll catch my wife and I skiing or hiking depending on the season, and servicing at our church.

I love what Good Deeds Mortgage is all about. We can all make a huge difference in our communities and in the world when we choose generosity. It's a totally simple concept, but it can be difficult for people to grasp what we are doing because it's so unusual in the business world. Who just gives half of their revenue away? We do, that's who!

Shane is new to GDM and spent the last 10 years as an Area Director for Young Life in Walla Walla and the 15 years before that working in marketing and creative services for several companies in the Seattle area.

He and his wife live in Walla Walla with their 3 kids (17, 15 and 12), their intensely affectionate chocolate lab, Chip and their mostly indifferent cat, Tux.
